Sandspiel
Created by: Max Bittker
If you've ever wanted to play alchemist, landscape artist, and minor chaos god all at once, this clever little sandbox lets you do exactly that, with pixels. It's part science experiment, part art tool, and part strangely meditative toybox, where fire burns wood, lava hardens into stone, seeds sprout when watered, and fungus quietly devours whatever it touches. You're given 20 elements to play with, ranging from basic sand and water to more unruly characters like mites and acid, all of which interact in often surprising ways. Want to paint a garden that ignites in a spectacular blaze, only to regrow in lush pixels once rain falls? Go for it. You can pause time to plan your masterpiece, use different brush sizes for precision, and undo your wildest missteps with a single click. Once you've created something you love (or something delightfully unhinged), you can upload it and see what other mad scientists have cooked up too. It's as soothing as it is chaotic, perfect for zoning out with some creative destruction or accidental beauty. Fun fact: The word fungus comes from Latin, but its Greek root spongos (σπόγγος, pronounced spón-gohs) means 'sponge', which checks out, considering how eagerly it soaks up your pixel world.
