Somewhere in that innocent-looking grid is a whole collection of words trying very hard not to be noticed. Your job is to track them down by scanning the letters and dragging your mouse across each word in the correct order. The hidden words can run horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and they may point in either direction, so this is less 'spot the obvious word' and more 'why did I stare at that S for thirty seconds?' The word list shown on screen gives you a clear target, while the letter grid puts your observation skills, vocabulary, and concentration to work. Click and drag across the letters when you find a match, and keep searching until the entire list has been cleared. The puzzles become more challenging as you progress, making this a good choice for anyone who enjoys classic word search books, newspaper puzzles, hidden object games, or brainy little diversions such as Words of Wonders and Wordscapes. There is also a time limit to keep things moving, so resist the temptation to admire your handiwork and get hunting. Word searches have been around in one form or another for surprisingly long, but the modern word search puzzle is generally credited to Norman E. Gibat, who created one called 'Puzzle' for the Selenby Digest in 1968. So yes, generations of people have willingly spent their free time hunting for letters that are sitting right in front of them. Consider this your digital contribution to the tradition. With its straightforward controls, progressively trickier grids, and vocabulary-focused gameplay, this is an easy-to-learn word puzzle that can give your brain a pleasant workout without requiring a spreadsheet, a rulebook, or the emotional commitment of a crossword.
