There is something wonderfully old-school about digging around a mysterious map and hoping the next patch of ground contains gold instead of absolutely nothing. Each turn gives you a limited opportunity to uncover hidden treasure on a hexagonal grid, so the real challenge is deciding where to spend your shovels and when to stop gambling on a promising patch. In Adventure mode, you tackle solo levels with a set number of shovels and need to uncover the required treasures before your digging supplies run dry. It has a little of the board-game thinking of classic Minesweeper, the treasure hunting charm of The Legend of Zelda, and the satisfying risk-and-reward rhythm of a casual strategy puzzle, although thankfully nobody is asking you to memorize an enormous fantasy family tree. Duel mode adds another layer of mischief, putting you against an opponent for three rounds. Players take turns digging tiles, banking points, and choosing powers that can help steal back the lead, so keeping an eye on the score is just as important as spotting the most tempting unexplored spaces. Between matches, you can return to camp, follow the level path, and gradually unlock more of the treasure hunt, giving the game a pleasant sense of progress without turning it into a second job. The hex grid makes every choice feel deliberate because each tile sits in relation to several others, and when you have only one shovel left, suddenly that harmless little patch of unexplored ground looks like it contains the secrets of civilization. For players who enjoy relaxing puzzle games with a competitive streak, turn-based strategy, hidden treasure, and simple rules that become more interesting as you learn to read the board, this is an easy game to pick up but surprisingly tricky to master. Fun fact: hexagons are popular in games and nature for a reason, honeybees use hexagonal cells because the shape packs together efficiently with no wasted gaps, which is rather impressive for an insect that has never once complained about spreadsheet software.
