Weekend at the Overlook
Created by: Doll Divine
Equal parts eerie and fabulous, this retro character creator is basically what you'd get if your favorite winter fashion magazine took a wrong turn into the haunted hallways of the Overlook Hotel. Inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (based on Stephen King's novel, of course), this stylish dress-up game lets you build male, female, non-binary, and trans avatars with gender-fluid flair and a wardrobe pulled straight out of a well-stocked vintage store. Think layered sweaters, chunky scarves, plaid everything, and some of the best coats this side of 1979. You can toggle between serene and sinister backgrounds, capturing both the snowy calm of Sidewinder, Colorado and the more unsettling, mirror-filled horrors that may or may not involve typewriters. The artwork is by cult-fave Picrew artist Ummmmandy, and it shows—there’s love in every color palette and every shaggy haircut. Fans of nostalgic fashion, spooky season vibes, and classic horror references (hi, Wendy, I’m home) will feel right at… well, not home exactly, but somewhere thrilling. Bonus historical fact: the Overlook’s design draws heavily from real 1920s hotels like the Ahwahnee in Yosemite—art deco meets Native American motifs with a side of foreboding. You don’t need to be a horror buff to enjoy this one—but if you’ve ever played Paper Doll Heaven while watching Twin Peaks, this is absolutely your jam.
